On March 19th, 5 agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) flew to Tallinn, Estonia to hold a seminar about Cyber Security organized by the American Chamber of Commerce Estonia.
Becoming a victim of a cyber attack is not a question of if, it is a question of when.
Beware of Insiders. Biggest threats to businesses actually come from attackers that the FBI classifies as Insiders. They are usually employees of the company sometimes acting on behalf of third parties to gain access to corporate systems from the inside.
Hackers can lock you out of your files and devices. Another threat to private companies are criminals looking to steal personal information or to extort their victims for financial gain using ransomware. Ransomware is a form of malware that locks the user out of their files or devices, then demands an anonymous online payment to restore access.
Phishing scams are targeting corporations. Phishing scammers are directing their attacks from individuals towards corporations. Make sure your employees are well aware and trained to spot these types of scams.
Go to Cloud. Most companies do not have the resources to host their own secure Cloud service. Going to Cloud is one of the best ways to prevent losing your files to malicious attacks because nothing is stored on your actual device. You will not risk losing data when for example, coming under a ransomware attack. Make sure you choose the best hosting provider.
And a suggestion from ASC-HS: take all the precautions you can get!
Do not cut corners.
If security is paramount, use further measures, such as the Additional Web Site Security (AWSS) feature*.
