Built Environment Management – Defining The Concept

Built Environment Management

Built Environment Management is a concept that has come to the fore over the last few years. However, many have tried to explain what this is all about and failed, whether they be software vendors, industry analysts or members of professional bodies.

We all know how Computer Aided Facilities Management can help in Real Estate and Facilities operations. We know how Integrated Workplace Management Systems can take the CAFM concept forward.

Built Environment Management is different, but it needs clear explanation. Our CEO, Miguel Sanchez Miguel, has created a series of articles and newsletter post with a view to demystify the topic and rid us of the jargon and acronym soup that has been generated over the last two decades.

Moreover, the truth is that technology is moving fast and our industry needs to take advantage of this. The development of unified digital models and the introduction of Artificial Intelligence are key components of this technology that will enable us to move from management buildings to managing the full ecosystem that is the Built Environment.

We need two things to help develop a pathway for managing the Built Environment. Firstly, we need a clear framework for people to understand. Secondly, we need an illustration of the benefits that accrue from looking at our whole ecosystem of buildings, assets, stakeholders and relationships that make up the Built Environment.

What is Built Environment Management?

Miguel has addressed both topics in his recent LinkedIn article. This will be the first of many on the subject.  In this article Miguel defines Built Environment Management and explores the impact on a key factor in the success of our industry; cost control

Please visit via this LINK. Miguel would be happy to read any reaction to his ideas.

What’s more, and in parallel, Miguel has created the concept of the Digital Builder. We will announce a brand new YouTube channel in the next weeks  As all good content creators would say “Please like and subscribe”!
